I’ve been waiting for this update for a long time (this page and the events leading up to it are why I’ve been excited for this chapter) as it marks Fae’s first active steps towards personal growth. So far Fae’s just gone along for the ride and while there’s plenty of reasons for her passivity, she’s starting to break away from blindly following the path others have laid out for her. Sure, it’s going to be baby steps and missteps for the time being but her actions on this page are paving the way for Fae to play an active part in her own story.

Everyone else is way too involved in the current argument to notice what’s going on.

I don’t usually like delving into what happens in my life because I’m a really boring person; most of my would-be stories revolve around the many joys of being lactose intolerant and quickly turn to TMI territory. I love food but over the past six years (people in my family develop food intolerances/sensitivities shortly after graduating high school) I’ve slowly seen many former loves disappear forever; this includes most industrially processed foods because whey, casein, and/or a variety of other dairy derivatives are added into everything from rice cakes to lunch meat.

However, today ended up not being a TMI day. Last week I decided to splurge and buy a pint of coconut milk based fake ice cream. It tasted good and was a lot closer to ice cream in texture and taste than the soy milk based monstrosity I tried a few months earlier. Then I found out that coconut ice cream is super easy to make and I made my very first batch of dairy free ice cream today. It tasted so good. At least the soupy mixture I created that is now sitting in my freezer tasted so good. It took a lot of will power just to get the mixture into the freezer; I wanted to drink it all. I can’t wait for tomorrow morning to roll around so I can see if the texture of my fake ice cream turned out believable.

If any one wants to make their own fake coconut ice cream all it takes is:

  • A can of coconut milk
  • sugar (added to taste)
  • vanilla extract (added to taste)

I added cocoa powder and fresh strawberries to mine but that’s just because I like strawberries and chocolate. Any day I can add something back into my diet is a great day!
