You can use this scene to tell what biases and truths were present in Enya’s and Adrik’s description of Hope.

I hope it’s clear that Fae is falling into the grave that she was standing over in the previous panel. Also romance!
I’m not a really big fan of romance in stories because there are very few instances where romance is done well, at least in Hollywood. And don’t get me started on love triangles… I hate love triangles with the fiery passion of a 1000 suns. However, as I get older I understand more and more why even the stupidest of romantic subplots make some people happy and have actually come to enjoy some plots that I use to hate.
For example, I use to loathe Romeo and Juliet. Romeo has a cat’s fickleness and Juliet has self-esteem issues but now that I’m much farther from my teenage years the story to two “star crossed lovers” is amusing in a very special way. To me Romeo and Juliet is very much a dark comedy where we as an audience get to laugh at two rebellious, hormonal teenagers doing what rebellious, hormonal teenagers do best – doing extremely stupid, shortsighted things in the name of “true love”. In that same vein we get to witness the absurdity of generational feuding. It’s a funny story.
While I bring up Romeo and Juliet, it actually has nothing to do with the current scene. I prefer for Romantic subplots to only become explicit if the subplot has some bearing on the main plot. The tremendous impact of Hope and Noliidae’s (the arboreal’s name) relationship on the history of Viosia (where Eternity Complex is set) hasn’t really come up in the story, yet. But it will.

This page was really close to being the death of me. I accidentally erased several hours of work with two quick mouse clicks and had to redo most of this page. If this page wasn’t mostly spot blacks I would have hated my life. The grass was the most annoying thing to redo.

Look who’s back.

The pillows were only on two pages and I already grew tired enough of drawing them that they didn’t make it back for a third page.

Getting the water to float like that takes a lot more concentration than it looks like. Marie is flinging the flask backwards because it is the only way she’s able to guarantee that it doesn’t fall on her foot and disrupt her concentration.
16
Marie carries around flasks of distilled water for just in case she has to use her abilities while in a humanoid form. She prefers to carry around distilled water because distilled water is the easiest water to control the flow of. Ordinarily the difference in the control-ability of water is so minute that it wouldn’t make a difference but Aquatians aren’t as strong in their humanoid form and notice the tiny difference in control-ability. Marie doesn’t like leaving things to chance and so she always carries distilled water with her.
The idea for water flasks totally came from watching Avatar:TLA. I really liked how practical and useful Katara’s water pouch was in the gaang’s travels and I wanted something equally useful for Marie. However, unlike Katara, Marie is able to use her entire body as a weapon if push comes to shove where as Katara can only use her sweat. There’s also no equivalent to blood bending in the Eternity Complex world. Aquatians control the flow of liquids, a highly skilled Aquatian could drain a person of blood (or other fluids) in a matter of seconds or awkwardly push/pull creatures across the ground but they have no control over the nervous system. What few Aquatians can do to the body of most living organisms is way more akin to what Magneto did to that guard who had been injected with metal in one of the x-men sequels instead of what a bloodbender can do. That scene with Magneto is pretty much the only thing I remember of that x-men movie.

If you were wondering why everyone had been sitting uncomfortably on the wooden floor, it is because Marie has gathered all of the extra pillows in order to make Fae’s pillow seat/bed. Though, Enya and Bjorn would both rather sit on the wooden floor than the pillows anyway. Fae was the only one whose comfort was affected by the loss of pillows.
Things I still need lots of practice drawing: hands, foreshortening, lips, many other things. Things I almost forgot to put on this page: Marie’s makeup, Fae’s eye bags.

And that’s the end of the scene. Those two might actually be capable of getting along after all.

Fake-spoiler: Fae never does get psychic powers of her own. All of her powers have been revealed but that doesn’t mean she won’t eventually become skilled with what she has. She just has to discover her confidence first.

Yesterday I officially became enrolled at a university to work towards a BS in the geological sciences. For the past year and a half I’ve been taking classes at a community college to help prepare me for obtaining a BS. I was really worried that I wouldn’t be accepted since I already have a BA but I worried for nothing. I made a ton of mistakes my first time through college (though I loved the program I ended up in and if I could go back in time I would totally double major) and I’m beyond grateful that I actually have a second chance to get a science degree, especially at my relatively young age. Most people don’t get a chance at this opportunity and so my chance at a new life means the world to me.
What this means for the future of Eternity Complex: updates will likely drop to one page a week after the semester commences, if I’m unable to build up a sizable buffer during the summer. My first semester will include a known weed-out-class, so I’m rather pessimistic about the amount of free time I’ll have outside of studying. And I’m not so sure how much extra work I’ll be able to get done over the summer between summer school and 2 weeks out of town.
